FAQ's
Common Connecticut Energy Storage Questions
In Connecticut, energy storage acts as a critical bridge between your solar panels and the grid. During the day, your battery stores excess solar power. At night, or when the grid goes down, your home pulls from this stored energy to keep essential appliances like refrigerators and medical devices running. In 2026, the Energy Storage Solutions program manages how your battery interacts with the utility to maximize grid stability.
We provide a range of lithium-based batteries with either an LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery chemistry or an NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery chemistry.
This statewide program provides both upfront and ongoing performance incentives to lower the cost of battery storage.
Upfront Rebate: Homeowners receive an immediate incentive of approximately $1,300.
Ongoing Payments: You can earn between $7,000–$10,000 in performance incentives over a 10-year term.
"Grid Edge" customers are those located on utility circuits that have historically experienced the longest and most frequent power outages.
The Bonus: If your home is classified as Grid Edge, you receive a 50% adder to your upfront incentive.
The Math: This increases the standard rebate from $250/kWh to $375/kWh. OneGrid can check your address against official Eversource and UI maps to confirm if you qualify for this higher tier.
Yes. To advance the state's clean energy goals, households at or below 60% of the State Median Income (SMI) qualify for significantly higher upfront rebates. These homeowners can receive $600 per kWh, which can cover the majority of a battery’s cost. Households in "distressed municipalities" or underserved communities also qualify for an elevated rate of $450 per kWh.
For homeowner-owned batteries, incentive payments are typically paid directly to the homeowner.
For batteries installed under a lease or managed ownership structure, ConnectedSolutions revenue is incorporated into lower monthly costs or shared
The solution to this is complicated and contingent upon several variables. These variables include the quantity and charge of batteries at the time of the outage, the amount of energy the property is using during an outage, and more. The size of a battery or bank of batteries should be sufficient to power your house until the grid is restored. You might install a smart service panel solution, like a SPAN panel, to have better control over how much electricity you use during an outage.
Yes. You can install a home battery as a standalone system without solar panels. In this configuration, your battery connects directly to your home’s electrical panel and charges using electricity from the utility grid.
Most modern solar batteries last between 10 to 15 years, depending on usage and environmental conditions. OneGrid installs premium-grade batteries with long warranties and reliable performance for years to come.
Indeed. Because battery storage systems are modular, you can always add more capacity. It's advisable to build a new solar panel array with batteries in mind if you anticipate adding them in the future.
Yes! If you already have a solar system, OneGrid can retrofit a compatible battery storage solution. Our team evaluates your setup and recommends the best integration for optimal efficiency and savings.
It depends on your energy habits and system size. OneGrid’s specialists perform an energy assessment to help you choose the right battery size for your household needs and backup goals.
Absolutely. While lithium-ion batteries can be sensitive to extreme cold, leading manufacturers now include integrated heating blankets and liquid thermal control systems to ensure optimal performance even in low temperatures. Solar panels actually become more efficient in cold weather, allowing them to continue trickling power into your battery even on sunny but freezing January days.

They were all kind, professional, and super responsive to our questions. They gave us clear expectations and explanations throughout and left our house and yard in a neat state after they were done. We’re really excited about our new panels and appreciated the easy installation process!Posted on Lars NorengTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The materials were delivered the night before. The crew showed up at the right time and started working right away. Seems like a very experienced team and hardly any conversations needed. They installed our panels on the main roof and on the side roof. Very efficient and they finished before time. Cables lined up as agreed. Battery in the middle of the wall and lined up as agreed. Cabling and electrical work was excellent as well. In our previous house we had solar as well; this crew from One-grid was significant better. Highly recommend them and a great experience.Posted on Russ RileyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Dexter sold me my panels before he started this venture and has been more responsive than anyone I do business with. Even after leaving the original installer of my system, he actually communicated better than they did when I had an electrical issue. Despite the fact he stood to gain nothing from me since the sale was completed years ago. Service means something, especially in the automated world we now live in. If anyone asks me about solar, I recommend him every time.Posted on Julie BaslerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The crew was amazing! They worked together so well and were very friendly. They were always on task and worked together so well. They kept the property clean and were respectful to me and the property. When they were done Matt showed me the app and answered any and every question I had. They made this a great experience!Posted on Jesus TrujilloTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “OneGrid exceeded all my expectations.
